flex_extract on Atos HPCF (ECMWF) in Bologna

Is the procedure for installing flex_extract on the ECMWF servers Atos HPCF in Bologna available?

Dear Flexpart users,

this is an information for all FLEXPART users who use ECMWF data and retrieve the meteorological fields via a member state user account from ECMWF MARS archive either by remote or gateway access.
Most of you are probably aware that the ECMWF is moving its computational centre from Reading, UK, to Bologna, IT and that the deadline is for 31 October 2022.

Flex_extract v7.1.2 will not work on the new server environment in Bologna, and I am working on releasing a new version of flex_extract to account for the necessary changes and incorporate the existing bug reports in the on flexpart.eu ticket system.

Public users who retrieve ECMWF data via the CDS API are not affected by these changes. However, the new release will also include bug fixes for the public version. So, keep an eye open for the official release.

Since the deadline is around the corner, I want to share with you that I have a development version in the flexpart.eu git repository, which is free for everyone to test. Please report any bugs or problems via the flexpart.eu ticket system. Since I am pretty busy, I wasn't able to provide a full release yet.

Since this is a work in progress, I did not have the time to update the documentation yet. However, the general use of the development version v7.1.3 is the same as for 7.1.2, but the access to ECMWF servers is slightly different. Please follow the instructions from ECMWF to learn how to log in and access their systems.

If you want to use the development version, please clone the repository and change into the dev branch via:

 git clone https://www.flexpart.eu/git/flex_extract.git flex_extract_v7.1.3
 git checkout dev

You can then modify the 'setup_bologna.sh' script and submit it via ./setup_bologna.sh for the configuration of the environment.
If it was successful, you can switch to the Run directory and modify the run_bologna.sh script to start your jobs.
