particle release on a grid

Hello,
is there a way to specify specific positions for particles released? For instance, is it possible to release particles on a grid defined by the user?

Currently, particles are released at random locations within the volume(s) defined in the RELEASES file. I have been thinking about changing tht to a regular distribution, but that won't happen very soon.
A workaround for releasing particles at a grid of strictly defined points could be to define point releases representing points in a grid.
If you want to represent a gridded area source, you would simply define rectangles as release locations.
